Today I paddled past Cape Caution, one of the scarier bits of ocean along the Inside Passage. Because it's really not inside, but rather exposed to the wind and swell of the Pacific. I was fortunate to encounter light winds and gentle swell.
Along the way I encountered a whale that I didn't recognize. It had no dorsal fin, but instead several bumps along its back. Rather than being a solid color like a humpback, it was mottled darker and lighter gray. Upon further research, I seem to have seen my first gray whale.
