Back on July 18, while I was weathering a storm in a marginal forest campsite, the commercial fishing vessel Gladiator took shelter in the cove I was in. It occurred to me at the time that naming a boat Gladiator seemed a bit presumptuous. Several of the fishermen came ashore on the next beach over and walked around, but they didn't quite make it over to my camp so I didn't get to talk with them.
I hear on my marine radio that the Gladiator has sunk. The crew took refuge in their skiff and was rescued by the Coast Guard. That's kind of sobering.
